Broderick Fobbs is presently the head coach of Grambling State University’s football team. He had served as head coach for a number of institutions before being named head coach of the Tigers on December 4, 2013.

He is the head coach of Grambling State University. In 2018 and 2019, Fobbs coached the Tigers of Grambling State University to an overall record of 6-5.

For the second consecutive season, the university had four players chosen to All-SWAC teams and earned the SWAC Defensive Player of the Year distinction.

De’Arius Christmas earned national and international recognition after being named one of 14 finalists for the William V. Campbell National Football Foundation Academic Award.

The tigers of Fobbs have been ranked first in the conference in nearly six categories, including turnovers gained, turnover margin, defensive touchdowns, blocked kicks, fumbles recovered, and passes intercepted.

In 2017, Fobbs guided Grambling State to an overall record of 11-2, culminating in a loss to North Carolina A&T State in the Celebration Bowl.

The team Tigers, on the other hand, continued to thrive with recurrent participation and victory as SWAC Champions, a great triumph over Clark Atlanta, rival Southern, Prairie View A&M, and a win over Alcorn State.

Fobbs has remained a four-time SWAC coach, leading the Tigers to a final ranking of 14th in the FCS Coaches Poll and 16th in the STATS FCS Top 25 Poll.

Ascend to fame

In 2016, Fobbs led the Tigers to an 11-1 overall record and the titles of SWAC champion, HBCU National Champions, and Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl Champions.

After winning the SWAC Western Division Championship, the SWAC Championship Game, and defeating North Carolina Central University 10-9, the Tigers established themselves as one of the best teams in FCS football.

Grambling University ended the 2016 season with an 11-game winning streak, claiming the 25th SWAC title (first since 2011) and the 15th HBCU football national title (first since 2008), as well as finishing 15th in the FCS Coaches Poll and 16th in the final FCS STATS Poll.

It has only been three years that Fobbs has not received the SWAC title as the team’s coach. However, he later led the Tigers to a 25-2 regular-season conference record. The team was named all-conference at the end of the season.

He coached his squad so well that two of his players received national honors, including Devante Kincade, who was named Offensive Player of the Year, and Donovan McCray, who was named Defensive Player of the Year for the season.

In addition to winning the SWAC title for both the team and himself, he was voted Sheridan Broadcasting Network Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year. In addition to being voted SWAC Coach of the Year in 2016, Fobbs was also named Sheridan, 3x Fitz Pollard,

and HERO Sports FCS Football Coach of the Year, as well as BOXTOROW Co-Coach of the Year. On December 4, 2013, Fobbs began his tenure as head coach at Grambling University. As the team’s first-year head coach, Fobbs, and his staff welcomed the challenges that lay ahead in the 2014 season.

Fobbs was named SWAC Coach of the Year in 2014, as well as Sheridan Broadcasting Network Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year, FCS Eddie Robinson Award Finalist,

Louisiana Sports Writers Coach of the Year, and Black College HOF Sports Writers Coach of the Year. This extraordinary accomplishment lasted until Fobbs’ second year at Grambling State University. The squad concluded the season ranked 24th in the final FCS STATS poll for the year 2010.

During that season, Fobbs was named 2015 SWAC Coach of the Year, BOXTOROW Coach of the Year, and was named to the STATS FCS Coach of the Year list.

While at Northwestern State from 2002 to 2006, Fobbs established himself as one of the successful coaches, recruiting two of the most productive receivers in history, Derrick Doyle and Toby Zeigler. In terms of receptions, they were first and second in the school, respectively.

Private life

In 1997, Fobbs graduated from Grambling State University with a bachelor’s degree. Kimbia Jones is his wife. Kyndal and Rylee, their two children, were born as a result of their union.
