Bruce Whitehead, 54, was arrested on Thursday morning after the sheriff’s office said it got a tip.

Whitehead reportedly raped and dismembered the woman on December 10 off Pine Hills Road near North Lane.

Sheriff Evan Avila stated, “In my tenure here at the sheriff’s office, this is certainly one of the more serious violations.”

The sheriff’s office corporal with the Sex Crime Unit told WESH 2 on Wednesday afternoon that this was one of the worst cases he has ever seen.

“He certainly meets my definition of a monster,” Avila continued. That’s the way I see things.”

the intersection of North Lane and North Pine Hills Road shortly before 4 a.m. on Saturday, December 10.

According to the sheriff’s office, Whitehead was convicted of kidnapping, raping, and attempting to kill another woman in Duval County in the 1980s.

After completing 20 years in prison, he was released in 2007.

According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the victim has been given resources and is expected to recover.

Avila stated during a press conference that after the victim’s escape, onlookers assisted her and then called the police.

During the investigation, police discovered the suspect’s car, allowing them to identify Whitehead as the suspect.

An arrest warrant now includes charges of attempted murder, armed kidnapping, and armed sexual battery.

Whitehead was previously convicted of kidnapping, armed sexual battery,

and first-degree attempted murder in a 1986 case. The rapist received a 20-year prison sentence.

Police are seeking for the public’s assistance in locating him.
