Buzz Aldrin- Professional Career

Following that, Jim Lovell and Buzz were chosen as backup crew for the project Gemini 10, where he played the job of the pilot, but due to an air crash that killed the prime crew member, they were classified as primary crew on June 17, 1966, together with Gordon Cooper and Gene Cernan.

Gemini 12 was launched from Cape Canaveral’s Launch Complex 19 on November 11, 1966, with the primary mission of rendezvousing with the target vehicle. Buzz used a sextant and a rendezvous chart to help create and communicate the correct information to Lovell.

Gemini 12 docked with an Agena target vehicle for the fourth time. Buzz and Lovell were assigned to an Apollo program with Commander Neil Armstrong, where Lovell piloted the Command Module and Buzz piloted the Lunar Module.

Due to a manufacturing and design delay in the Lunar Module, the crews of Apollo 8 and Apollo 9 were exchanged, and Niel Armstrong became the commander of Apollo 11.

Following the success of Apollo 11, during which Buzz took photographs and conducted research on the moon, he was kept busy giving lectures and making public appearances, and in 1970, he joined Soviet cosmonauts on a tour of NASA Space Centers.
