He served aboard the USS South Dakota during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal and helped in the fire control efforts. Calvin Graham was born on April 3, 1930, in Texas. He received disability pay benefits in 1988 after President Ronald Reagan signed legislation granting it to him. He enlisted in the Navy when he was 12 years old after the attack of Pearl Harbor and later joined the United States Marines when he was 17 years old.
