American animator who worked on such 1920s and ’30s short films as Alice’s Wonderland and Bosko the Doughboy. Carman Maxwell was born on December 27, 1902, in Siloam Springs, AR. He began his animation career with Walt Disney Productions, but he and a group of animators soon left Disney to form a new studio that was eventually named Warner Bros. Cartoons, Inc. He worked on short, animated versions of Goldie Locks and the Three Bears and Jack and the Beanstalk at the start of his career.
