The death of Chase Fossett of Gardiner, who was killed in a crash early Saturday, rocked the Maine Maritime Academy. The seven people killed in Saturday’s horrific accident have all been recognized as Maine Maritime Academy students.

The Maine State Police reported on Saturday evening that four Maine Maritime Academy students were killed in a crash early Saturday morning.

Three more students were sent to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Chase Fossett, 21, attended Gardiner Area High School and majored in international business and logistics.

Chad Kempton, the principal of Fossett’s high school, remembers him as a popular student-athlete.

Chase was a brilliant young guy who was extremely kind and considerate, a great member of their community,

a student-athlete, and had many wonderful friends who are now suffering immensely, according to Chad.

He also claimed that the news had just reached his students, teammates, professors, coaches, family, and friends.

Maine Maritime Academy’s president, Jerry S. Paul,

issued a statement in which he described the school community as “heartbroken” by the accident.

As the president of Maine Maritime and a father, he asked for everyone’s respect and caution for all of their pupils.

What Caused the Castine Car Crash That Killed Maine Maritime Students?

Many Maine communities are still reeling after the news of Saturday’s fatal vehicle accident in Castine,

which killed four Maine Maritime Academy students and badly injured three more.

The modest public college in the coastal town of Castine, which has approximately 1,000 students enrolled,

was planning a vigil in remembrance of the four fatalities for 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

They died early Saturday after another student, Joshua Goncalves-Radding,

lost control of the vehicle they were in on Route 166 near Castine, hit a tree, and burst into flames.

Chase Fossett, Brian Kenealy, and Chase Fossett were all born in Maine.

The victims have been tentatively identified as 20-year-old Brian Kenealy of York, Maine,

21-year-old Chase Fossett of Gardiner, Maine, 22-year-old Luke Simpson of Rockport,

Massachusetts, and 20-year-old Riley Ignacio-Cameron of Aquinnah, Massachusetts.

According to an email from Shannon Moss,

The public information officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

People who knew the students have expressed their sorrow online, posting warm tributes and sympathies.

According to Moss, three of the crash’s survivors are Maine Maritime Academy students.

They were brought to surrounding hospitals to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The victims were taken to the Augusta Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Shore Road was closed for more than eight hours while Maine State Police troopers investigated the collision. The highway is now open.

According to the principal, losing the students is a terrifying event that some parents must go through.

When asked to characterize Chase, Kempton went on to say that he was a determined

young guy with ambitions, a high achiever, and a high school lacrosse and soccer player.

Paul stated that their thoughts and prayers are with all students and families during this difficult time.

Their present priority is to assist the college community and to offer counseling services.
