Sununu was born and reared in Salem, New Hampshire, as one of eight siblings. He is the son of Nancy and former New Hampshire Governor and White House Chief of Staff John H. Sununu.
His father’s relatives immigrated to the United States from the Middle East around the turn of the century, while his paternal grandmother was born in El Salvador to a family of Lebanese Greek Orthodox Christians who had established in Central America about the same time.
His father’s paternal ancestors are Lebanese and Palestinian from Jerusalem’s Greek Orthodox community.
