As a true freshman at Iowa Central Community College, he won the 165-pound national junior college wrestling title with an unblemished 34-0 win-loss record.

He was detained in August 2007 on charges of avoiding police and driving under the influence.
His blood alcohol level was discovered to be three times the legal limit after he was apprehended.
