Introduction of Conor McGregor

McGregor is an Irish former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) who has won featherweight and lightweight champion. He is #8 in the UFC men’s pound for pound rankings and # 4 in the UFC lightweight rankings. He knocked out Jose Aldo within 13 seconds which is the fastest victory in UFC fight history. He has managed time for work and family.  

Early life

The Irish man Conor McGregor was raised from the poor neighbourhood of Crumlin who has become the richest MMA fighter in the world now. He was born in Cumlin, Dublin on 14 July, 1988. Tony and Margaret McGregor are his parents. He developed his passion for sport when he was studying in Colaiste de hide. He enjoyed playing soccer  before finding out medium for aggression in boxing. He joined the Crumlin Boxing Club at the age of 11 and began boxing at the age of 12. He won the Dublin novice Championship during that time. He moved to Lucan, Dublin with his family and commenced plumbing apperenticeship. He also began training of mixed martial arts under John Kavanagh. Although his parents’ objected for his fighting, he started to pursue dream of professional fighter. So, he left that job and started training mixed martial arts (MMA) after meeting with future UFC fighter Tom Egan. McGregor made his mixed martial arts debut in an amateur fight against Kairen Campbell for the Irish Ring of Truth promotion in dublin in which he won via technical knockout (TKO).

 But when his mother contacted to his coach and said him to restore his dreams. Then, he again won his match against Connor Dillon. McGregor went on an eight fight winning streak during 2011 and 2012. During that time, he won both the CWFC Featherweight and Lightweight championships which made him the first European professional mixed martial artist to hold titles in two divisions.

  2013– UFC president Dana White made a trip to Dublin for receiving gold medal from Trinity College and was requested to sign McGregor to the UFC. He gave an impression by his first knockout match. On 17 August, McGregor was about to face Andy Ogle but McGregor was replaced due to injury. And he was inactive for 10 months.

2014-In 2014 July 19, McGregor was expected to fight with Cole Miller but was replaced due to thumb injury. He fought with Brandao and won the ‘Performance of the Night’ award. After then, he faced two more opponents in which Dustin Poirier lost his first UFC KO/TKO. The victory earned McGregor his second straight ‘Performance of the Night’ award. 

2015– He got third straight ‘Performance of the Night’ after facing Dennis Siver on 18 January 2015. The match of Aldo and McGregor was announced at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on December 12, 2015. However, Aldo had rib injury on June 23 and was replaced by Chad Mendes. He won the fight and got the UFC Interim Featherweight Championship. Then he got victory on ‘The Ultimate Fighter’. On 10 August, there was a match between Aldo and McGregor in which he won the match in 13 seconds.

2016– In 2016, McGregor would face Rafael dos Anjos but the match was fixed with Nate Diaz due to foot injury of dos Anjos. Though McGregor lost this match, both of the competitors got ‘Fight of the Night’. A rematch with Nate Diaz happened in which McGregor won the rematch.  He managed to get UFC’s lightweight and featherweight champions after getting victory on Eddie Alvarez. 

2018– Due to his inactivity relationship with UFC, he was stripped off from Lightweight champions. On 3 august, McGregor was going to face Khabib Nurmagomedov for the UFC Lightweight Championship in Las Vegas and lost the fight in fourth round.

2019– On 26 March 2019, McGregor announced his retirement. However, he intended to make a comeback in January 2020 as he tweeted that he wanted a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov. 

2020– After a year, he faced Donald Cerrone in welterweight bout. He won the fight via technical knockout 40 seconds and made him the first UFC fighter to hold knockout finishes in featherweight, lightweight and welterweight divisions. McGregor finished off American Donald Cowboy Cerrone and got the victoryin more than 3 years.

Controversies of Conor McGregor

Driving offences– Mc Gregor was fined €400 due to the exceeding speed limit in November, 2017. He was again fined €1000 and disqualified from driving for six months.

Bus attack–In April 2018, McGregor showed up at the end of a media event before 2 days of UFC match. There hand truck was thrown at bus and the smashed glass injured some of the UFC fighters inside. Two of the fighters’ matches were cancelled. McGregor was arrested and charged with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief.

Personal life

Conor McGregor met Dee Devlin when his MMA career was getting off from the ground. Dee Devlin stuck with him for many years though he was on welfare at that time. When McGregor started achieving success, Dee Devlin left her job and travelled with him. She had supported him very much. When they were about to have their first child, McGregor took off some months from UFC. They have two children. The first baby’s name is Conor Jack McGregor Jr. and the second baby’s name is Croia McGregor.

Conor McGregor has struggled a lot to reach this level. He has also said that ‘ THE MORE YOU SEEK THE COMFORTABLE, THE MORE YOU WILL BECOME COMFORTABLE’. He has become the successful fighter, father, brother,son and husband.
