He died at Strong Memorial Hospital, where he had been taken for several weeks before he died when he stopped breathing after being powerfully controlled by Rochester police on the city’s road.
Prude’s murder became truly newsworthy after a video film of Rochester, New York, cops putting a spit hood over Prude’s head was delivered on the internet on 3 September 2020, prompting his death from asphyxia.

While meandering down West Main, Daniel allegedly shed his long clothing, tank top, and socks; then, Joe called crisis benefits again to seek their assistance.
According to a bystander who also recorded a Facebook Live video of Prude, Daniel was asking someone to dial crisis services, and when the individual dialed, Prude fled.
According to the police report, Prude also broke windows at a business as he walked by.
Prude was apprehended minutes later, at around 3:16 a.m., by nearly twelve cops who asked Prude to lie on the floor with his hands behind his back.
According to the police, after cuffing Daniel, they placed a spit hood over his head to protect him from COVID-19.
Following that, Prude became uncontrollable and demanded that the spit hood be removed; in response, the cop held him down for 2 minutes and 15 seconds and pushed him over backward until he became oblivious.
Prude remained exposed to subzero temperatures throughout. He was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital after becoming oblivious, where he was later declared “cerebrum dead.”
Prude died on March 30, 2020, after being in a coma for about seven days.
