David Burliuk was born on July 21, 1882 in Ukraine. He admired the Impressionist paintings of Claude Monet. He studied at the Royal Academy in Munich and at the Moscow School of Painting. He joined the Jack of Diamonds group in 1910 and began focusing on poetry after 1911.
