A big, physical defender who became the first American-born captain in NHL history to hoist the Stanley Cup when he led the Dallas Stars to a championship in 1999. Drafted 8th overall by the Minnesota North Stars in 1990, he stuck with the franchise when they moved to Dallas and spent a total of 12 seasons with the team. Derian Hatcher was born on June 4, 1972, in Michigan. He and alternate captain Mike Modano were two of the leaders of the 1999 Stanley Cup Champion Dallas Stars.
