Investigators uncovered a plastic bag with a rotting odor and a piece of child’s clothing, which were stored as evidence, according to sheriff’s authorities.
The remains, however, could not be recognized.
According to authorities, a coroner’s autopsy performed on November 7, 1991,
confirmed that the skull belonged to a young child aged 4 to 8.
Because there was no confirmed cause of death, the investigation was closed with no new information.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, Othram Inc., a DNA sequencing and genomics company,
obtained DNA from the skull in the fall of 2022 in the hopes of identifying the child.
According to sheriff’s officials, the lab established that the skull was Derrick’s after comparing DNA to a sample from Clark earlier this year.
