He painted murals in Mexico City, Chapingo, Cuernavaca, San Francisco, Detroit, and New York City from 1922 until 1953. Diego Rivera was born on December 8, 1886 in Guanajuato, Mexico. His circle of friends included Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani, who painted a portrait of Rivera in 1914. He came under the influence of such cubism painters as Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, practicing the style from 1913 until 1917. He then embraced post-impressionism after coming under the influence of Paul Cezanne in 1917.
