Ellar discovered his love for acting very early since he was picked to portray Mason Evans Jr. at the age of six by the filmmaker Richard Linklater, who had an idea to make a film that would show a youngster growing up and coming of age.

The filming started in May of the following year and lasted until August of 2013. So, this enormous drama, named “Boyhood”, was finally released in 2014, when Ellar was 19 years old.

It got good reviews, and the performance lead him to be nominated for many accolades and even won the 2014 Boston Society of Film Critics Award for Best Cast and 2015 Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Young Performer.

Side by side with filming “Boyhood”, Ellar Coltrane continued to look for new projects, thus he formally made his debut film appearance in the part of Young Earl Crest in the 2002 comic crime picture “Lone Star State Of Mind”.
