Emily Robison is an American multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and vocalist. Emily Robison is best known as a founding member of the Dixie Chicks, a female country band that includes her sister Martie Maguire and her friend Natalie Maines. Among other instruments, she plays banjo, dobro, guitar, lap steel, bass, mandolin, accordion, and sitar. She spent years touring bluegrass festivals and busking before joining the band.

She then created a band with her sister, guitarist Robin Lynn Macy, and upright bassist Laura Lynch, but eventually changed her mind. Maines stepped in to help with the sisters. Strayer and his sister Martha Strayer continued to play music together after graduating from high school.

Initially, they were joined by guitarist Robin Lynn Macy and upright bassist Laura Lynch, but both left the band in 1995, and singer Natalie Maines took their place.

This ensemble went on to achieve considerable commercial success.

Both the “Wide Open Spaces” and “Fly” albums were major successes for the band, garnering them diamond status and making them the only female group in any genre of music to have back-to-back certified diamond records.

Both albums have received numerous awards, including Grammy and Academy of Country Music nominations.

The most popular singles from both albums are “Wide Open Spaces,” “There’s Your Trouble,” “Cowboy Take Me Away,” and “Without You.”

The band distinguished itself from other groups at the time due to Stayer’s and her sister’s virtuoso ability on multiple instruments.

Court Yard Hounds

Strayer continued to compose music while the Dixie Chicks were on sabbatical. Strayer formed the Court Yard Hounds as a side project with her sister Martha, with Strayer serving as lead vocalist.

The pair released an album in 2010 that was recorded in Martha’s home studio and featured largely Strayer’s songs.

Despite the fact that Maines did not contribute to the album, many of the same musicians and producers who worked with the Dixie Chicks helped Strayer create his side project.

The Court Yard Hounds first appeared in public in 2010 at the South by Southwest (SXSW) event in Austin, Texas. The duo released their second album in 2013.
