An American fiction writer, children’s author, and historian, she is best known for her 1943 young novel, Johnny Tremain. Her other works include A Mirror for Witches (1928) and Paul Revere and the World He Lived In (1942). Esther Forbes was born on June 28, 1891 in Massachusetts. Her biography of Paul Revere won the Pulitzer Prize. She studied at Bradford Academy and later enrolled in several courses at the University of Wisconsin.
