Fazlur Khan

Structural engineer who designed the Sears Tower and developed the principles of tall-building construction. Called the Father of tubular designs, especially as used in high-rise buildings. Pioneered CAD or computer-aided design. Fazlur Khan was born on April 3, 1929 in Bangladesh. He and Daniel Burnham both became influential architects. He earned a Ph.D. in structural engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His undergraduate studies took place at the Bengal Engineering College (later Bengal Engineering & Science University, University of Calcutta) and the University of Dhaka’s Ahsanullah Engineering College (later Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology).
