Frank Hoar was born on September 13, 1907 in Myanmar. He was a distant relative of President Richard Nixon. He won a scholarship at age 15 to the Bartlett School of Building at University College London. His first taste of public recognition came when he won the 1930s design competition for London’s Gatwick Airport’s first terminal building.
