Fender began his career with The Blue Notes in the 1950s and later worked as a solo performer under the stage name El Bebop Kid.
He enjoyed a string of singles in both Spanish and English in the 1960s, including “Wasted Days and Wasted Nights,” “Before the Next Teardrop Falls,” and “Secret Love.”
He was also noted for his work with the bands Los Super Seven and Texas Tornados.
Fender received multiple honors over his career, including a Grammy for Best Mexican-American Album in 2002 for his album “La Msica de Baldemar Huerta.”
