His family immigrated to the United States in 1996 and settled in the South Bronx, New York City.

He went to Lehman and Roosevelt High Schools, where he learned to speak English both in school and on the streets, as he previously only knew Arabic and French.

Montana’s father chose to return to Morocco after two years of struggling to make a decent living. His mother, on the other hand, insisted on staying in the United States with the children to give them a better chance. She was expecting her third child at the time. Following her husband’s departure, Montana took on the role of breadwinner for the family, as they were also on welfare.

French Montana: Professional Career

French Montana, who was still a teenager at the time, began creating and selling a series of street DVDs called Cocaine City, which featured interviews with established and upcoming rappers as well as a detailed breakdown of street music and hip-hop beefs.

He also started battle rapping on the streets as Young French and used the DVDs to show off his talent to the public.

Cocaine City outperformed expectations, becoming one of the top-selling street-produced DVDs of the 2000s. Montana and his friends went on to found Coke Boys Records. In 2008, he released a second mixtape titled ‘Live From Africa,’ followed by two collaborative mixtapes with rapper Max B.

Montana had gained a following by 2012, which led to him being featured in that year’s XXL Freshman Class as well as a joint venture deal between P. Diddy’s Bad Boy Records and Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group.

Montana was later featured on the hook of Ross’ “Stay Schemin” before releasing “Pop That,” his first single from his debut album, “Excuse My French.” The song, which featured and Rick Ross, became a summer anthem, peaking at number two on Billboard’s Hot R&B and Rap chart.

His second single, Freaks, and third single, ‘Ain’t Worried About Nothing,’ were well received by fans, leading to the debut album’s commercial success.

Throughout this time, Montana continued to release mixtapes, the seventeenth of which was released in January 2014.

He has released twenty mixtapes and two studio albums to date. The second album, Jungle Rules, was released in July 2017, with its first single, the hit track ‘Unforgettable,’ featuring.
