Garrett married Claudia Haro, a former actress, in 1998. Kaylie, their daughter, was born to them as a couple. However, in 1999, the couple chose to part ways. The two then went to court to fight for custody of their daughter. Garret was enraged when he obtained Claudia’s custody.

Claudia enlisted the services of her brother Manuel Haro to hire a hitman for $10,000. Garrett’s house was photographed and mapped out for the hitman. In May of 2000, Garrett knocked on his door. The man asked Warren if the automobile in the driveway was his as he answered the door. Garrett described the incident as follows:

‘Yeah, that’s my car,’ I said. As a result, I opened the door and peered outside to see if my car had been hit. “When I did, he had a gun on his right side by his right leg, which he took up and began shooting at me.”

Garrett was shot four times in the chest, neck, and left hip with point 32 ACP. The man shot him again while laying in his right eyes, blinding him. The hitman fired two rounds at her, nearly hitting her in the head. Warren’s mother heard the gunshots and came over to investigate.

Claudia was later captured and sentenced to 12 years and four months in prison at the California Institution for Women in Corone, California, on charges of tentative murders and the principal firearm charge for the tentative murder of Garrett.
