Gary Allan: Birth, Parents

On December 5, 1967, the musician was born and raised in La Mirada, California. His family was adamant about two things: music and education.

In addition, at the age of 15, he turned down a recording contract from A&M Records in order to finish his education.

While attending La Serna High School in Whittier, California, he continued to perform with his band The Honky Tonk Wranglers at sold-out local venues.

Gary Allan: Professional Career

Gary Allan would rise to prominence as a result of a combination of opportunity and talent. This chain of events began when he met songwriter/producer Byron Hill, who would go on to play a significant role in Allan’s career.

They met in 1993 in California through a mutual friend named Jim Seal. The two hit it off and stayed in touch over the years, frequently working together on small projects.

A wealthy couple gave Gary Allan a generous $12,000 check-in 1995 after listening to his demo tape that he had left in the glove box of a truck they had purchased.

The money was used by the aspiring musician to record some of the songs on which he and Byron had collaborated in the past.

Byron sent four of these songs to various labels, who immediately began clamoring for the musician’s rights. Decca Records was eventually chosen by Byron and Gary.

Allan’s first three albums, Used Heart for Sale, It Would Be You, and Smoke Rings in the Dark, were released by Decca.

Although his first two albums featured some high-flying singles, Allan’s third album reflected a musical growth and maturity in his approach that gave the album wings. The RIAA certified it platinum.

Gary was promoted to the artist roster of MCA Nashville after Decca Records folded in early 1999. Allan went into overdrive in the 2000s, releasing four studio albums and one compilation album.

Alright Guy, his fourth studio album released in 2001, produced his first ever single to reach the top of the Billboard country charts in the United States.

His 2003 album See If I Care yielded two number one singles, “Nothing But the Radio” and “Tough Little Boys.”

Tough All Over, his sixth studio album, was a deeply personal album for the singer, who was going through some difficult times at the time.

The album was a huge success, selling 99,000 units in its first week. It also debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on Top Country Albums. By the end of the following year, it had been certified as gold.

Gary Allan: Relationship Status

The country singer, who was born in California, has been married a few times. Gary married his first wife, Tracy Taylor, in 1987, when he was only 19 years old.

After divorcing her, he married Dannette Day, a model at the time. On November 28, 1998, the couple married in South Carolina. Their union, however, did not last long, as it was dissolved less than a year later in June 1999.

On June 5, 2001, he married his third wife, Angela. Everything seemed to be going well in the singer’s life until tragedy struck.

Angela, who had suffered from severe depression and migraines, committed suicide in the early hours of October 25, 2004. When Gary heard the gunshot, he had just left the bedroom to go get her a coke in the kitchen.

She’d shoved the gun into her mouth and pulled the trigger. In the aftermath of this tragedy, Gary took a break from music to grieve privately; however, he decided to channel his grief through his music. This resulted in his well-received Tough All Over album.

He would later appear on The Oprah Winfrey Show to discuss Angela’s life and suicide. Gary Allan’s first marriage resulted in three daughters: Maggie, Dallas, and Tanna. The musician is not currently in a relationship, but he was rumored to have dated model Justina Crosslin between 2007 and 2008.
