This culminated in 1984 when he was accused with many counts of a wide range of offenses, including continuing criminal conspiracy, murder, and drug trafficking. He was finally sentenced to life in jail without the possibility of release.

When his mentor, Barnes, testified against him, the case against him became even stronger. He was tried and convicted on many counts of racketeering, with future New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani handling the prosecution.

Barnes and Fisher were both considered drug kingpins during their prime; they had many underlings and were even feared by the police due to their power.

Barnes’ testimony began 11 months after his arrest when he agreed to become a government informant in order to testify against the other participants in the trade. He testified, he said, because he found Fisher was having an affair with his mistress.

Because of his assistance with the government, he was accepted into the federal Witness Protection Program.

Later, a documentary named “The Guy Fisher Story” was released. His story was also covered in the television show “American Gangster.”
