He allegedly opened fire at the Chinese-owned Star Ballroom Dance Studio before fleeing, leaving multiple casualties and wounded.
A second incident was reported 17 minutes later at Alhambra’s Lai Lai Ballroom and Studion.

The perpetrator left in a white Chevrolet Express cargo van, causing no injuries in the Alhambra incident.
It was ultimately determined that the gunman in both incidents was the same individual, Huu Can Tran, 72.

During a news conference, LA County Sheriff Robert Luna stated that the dead body discovered inside the van was that of the Monterey dance studio mass shooter.
Tran is accused of being the culprit
Tran is accused of being the culprit of a mass shooting in
California’s major Asian-American community during the Lunar New Year weekend.
SWAT officers engaged in an hours-long standoff after seeing a white cargo van that matched the specifications of the vehicle of interest in the Monterey Park shooting.
Three big armored authority vehicles blocked the white van, preventing the suspect from fleeing the scene.
As officers ordered the individual inside the van to exit, they heard a
gunshot and suspected the driver had shot himself.
Authorities discovered evidence linking the 72-year-old man to the Monterey
Park shooting and the other event in Alhambra after searching the van.
A weapon was also recovered from the vehicle, and investigators are now investigating the cause of the fatal shot.

Huu Can Tran, a 72-year-old Chinese immigrant to the United States,
was identified as the shooter at the Monterey Dance Studio.
Tran was a regular at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio, where the fatal incident took place.
He allegedly met his ex-wife at a Monterey-based dance studio
where he taught informal lessons. According to reports, the couple split in 2005.
The suspect in the Monterey Park shooting, who appears to be an elderly Asian man,
has been identified by police.
The shooter lived at a retirement residence in Hemet, California.
Authorities have yet to discover the motive for the murders,
and the Sheriff stated that it is too early to conclude that the crimes were motivated by hatred.
There are no outstanding suspects in the tragic shooting in Los Angeles’ Asian-American neighborhood.
There were five males and five women among the 10 people killed.
Their names have not yet been revealed, although they are thought to be in their 50s, 60s, or older.
Seven of the injured were brought to the hospital, where their situations ranged from stable to critical.
