Ibrahim Traoré, a Burkinabé military commander,
is now the President of the Transitional Government of Burkina Faso.
Following the September 30, 2022 coup, he seized this job,
Traoré was promoted to lieutenant in 2014 and assigned to MINUSMA, a United Nations peacekeeping force active in the Mali conflict.

Traoré was inaugurated as Burkina Faso’s transitional president,
head of state, and supreme chief of the armed forces on October 21, 2022.

After the coup, the Ghanaian government officially accused Traoré
of working with the Wagner Group and using their services against Islamist insurgents.
Traoré, on the other hand, denied these assertions, claiming that the
“Wagner” they were referring to were the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP).
Traoré proclaimed his support for Russia and the reopening of the Russian embassy, which had been closed since 1992, on July 29, 2023.
