He later rose through the ranks to command assault and sniper teams in Iraq and Afghanistan. He later qualified to be a platoon commander in the southern Philippines, where he practiced counterinsurgency.
During the tumultuous drawdown of US forces, Jack led a Special Operations Task Unit in the most Iranian-influenced area of southern Iraq.
