Jaelan Phillips- Professional Career

When it comes to his passion for the game, it began when he enrolled at Redlands East Valley High School.

He continued to be a standout player during that time, finishing with 264 tackles, 31.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and three interceptions.

Jaelan was rated one of the greatest high school prospects in 2017, with more than 20 college offers.

He went on to play two seasons for UCLA, racking up 21 tackles (seven for loss), two pass deflections, and 3.5 sacks in a total of seven games.

He appeared in four games as a sophomore before suffering a concussion that ended his season.

He had a rough year in 2018, as he suffered many injuries, including a vehicle accident while riding his moped.

As a result, he had to withdraw from football due to medical reasons in December 2018. Due to his injuries, he had redirected his attention away from the game and began to concentrate more on music.

He transferred to the University of Miami the next year and eventually resumed his football career.

He was benched for the entire 2019 season due to NCAA transfer regulations, but he ended up with 45 tackles, 8 sacks, and an interception in 2020.

He was a nominee for the Chuck Bednarik Award and was awarded second-team All-American and All-ACC.

Phillips decided to waive his remaining collegiate eligibility and enter the 2021 NFL Draft, where he was selected by the Miami Dolphins with the 18th overall choice in the first round.
