Farr’s success began when he was 11 years old and won two dollars in a local acting contest. 

Farr attended the Pasadena Playhouse after graduating from Woodward High School, where a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer talent scout discovered a flair in him and offered him a screen test for Blackboard Jungle.

Farr made his debut film, The Blackboard Jungle, in 1955, and was soon called for a Broadway production of No Time for Sergeants, right before being recruited.

Since 1984, he has arranged an annual women’s professional golf event on the LPGA circuit, the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic, presented by Kroger, Owens Corning, and O-I in Sylvania, Ohio, for local children’s organizations.

He co-piloted a TB-25 in Andy Griffith’s military comedy No Time for Sergeants, which also brought the promising TV comic Don Knotts to the big screen by Warner Brothers in 1958.
