Kay Ivey

Kay Ivey (born October 15, 1944) is an American politician who has been the 54th Governor of Alabama since 2017. From 2003 to 2011, Kay Ivey served as the 38th Alabama State Treasurer, and from 2011 to 2017, she served as the 30th Lieutenant Governor of Alabama. She is a Democrat.

She became the second female governor and the first female Republican governor after her predecessor, Robert J. Bentley, resigned.

In the 2018 gubernatorial election, she easily defeated her opponent Walt Maddox.

Her father is Boadman Nettles Ivey, and her mother is Barbara Elizabeth (Nettles) Ivey.

Her father was a World War II army major who later worked with the Gees Bend community as part of a federal effort called the Farmers Home Administration.

She adores her family, saying on Instagram, “As an only child, I treasure the close relationship I had with my parents, Boadman and Barbara Nettles Ivey.”

They taught me about the ups and downs of life, but most importantly, they taught me how to be a high achiever.
