Kim was born in Hapcheon, Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, to an ordinary family; however, he currently resides in Anyang with his parents and elder brother.

Kim stated that his father was in the military and was subjected to very strict discipline because he was a man of words. Because of his father’s characteristics, he learned to be frugal with his money. Having witnessed his mother’s silent suffering since a young age, he feels a strong attachment to her.

He began singing rock songs at a young age. Later, feeling inspired, he decided to participate in a singing audition with the support and encouragement of his family. He was dubbed the “Young Master of Hapcheon.”
