Kristina Groves Career

Groves made her Olympic debut in Salt Lake City, Utah, during the United States 2002 Winter Olympics.

She ranked fifth in the 1000 meters, second in the 1500 meters, eighth in the 3000 meters, sixth in the 5000 meters, and second in the team pursuit with the Canadian team.

On the 3000-meter, she was the 2008 Single Distances World Champion. She won a medal in every event she competed in at these championships, in addition to two silver and two bronze medals.

Groves won 12 medals, including four golds, during the 2008–2009 world cup season.

Groves’ career took an amazing turn during the 2009 World Single Distances Championships, held at the new Richmond Olympic Oval near Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, when she became the most decorated speed skating athlete in the nation, surpassing the well-known Jeremy Wotherspoon with 13 medals to his ten.

She is also the world cup champion in the 1500 m event for the second year in a row.

Groves set a world record in the team pursuit with teammates Christine Nesbitt and Brittany Schussler on December 6, 2009, at the Calgary Essent ISU Worldcup held at the Olympic Oval, with a time of two minutes 55.79 seconds.
Groves qualified for five events at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, participating in the 1000 meter, 1500 meter, 3000 meters, 5000 meters, and team pursuit, more than any other Canadian speed skater.

She earned a bronze medal in her first Olympic race, the 3000 meters. She placed fourth in the 1000 meters on February 18,.06 seconds behind the bronze medalist.

Christine Nesbitt, a teammate, won the gold medal.

She won a silver medal in the 1500 meters on February 21. She became the 11th Canadian woman to win at least four Olympic medals (Summer or Winter).

She won the gold medal in the 3000-meter speedskating event at the Nagano Olympics in 2008.
