Ito was born on August 2, 1950, in Los Angeles, California, to parents Toshi and Jim Ito. During WWII, his parents were interned in Japanese American internment camps.
Ito went to John Marshall High School for his education. He also earned a bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of California.
