Lawrence Joseph Hogan Jr., known as Larry Hogan(born May 25, 1956) is a politician from the United States. He has been the 62nd Governor of Maryland since 2015 and the chair of the National Governors Association since July 2019. He is a Republican.

Larry Hogan was born in Washington, D.C. in 1956 and raised in Landover, Maryland, where he attended Saint Ambrose Catholic School and DeMatha Catholic High School.

After his parents separated in 1972, he relocated to Florida with his mother and graduated from Father Lopez Catholic High School in 1974.

Hogan is the son of Nora (Maguire) and Lawrence Hogan Sr., who served as the U.S.

Congressman from Maryland’s 5th Congressional District from 1969 to 1975 and as the County Executive of Prince George’s County from 1978 to 1982.

Hogan Sr. was well-known for being the first Republican member of the United States House Judiciary Committee to campaign for Richard Nixon’s impeachment. Both of his parents were of Irish ancestry.

Hogan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in government and political science from Florida State University from 1974 to 1978.

Hogan served in the Florida State Legislature while in college and again on Capitol Hill after graduation. Hogan assisted his father in running a competitive bid for Prince George’s County Executive in 1978, and he then worked for his father as a low-paid “intergovernmental liaison.”

Hogan formed Hogan Companies in 1985, which specializes in farm, industrial, and residential property brokerage, consultancy, acquisition, and growth. He worked in the corporate sector for the next 18 years.

As the son of a United States Congressman, Hogan was drawn to politics at a young age and has participated in a variety of areas of politics, including election initiatives and citizen referendums.

In 1992, he was the Republican candidate for Maryland’s 5th congressional district. In 2011, he formed Change Maryland, a self-described nonpartisan grassroots group.

In 2015, he suggested legislative amendments to address nitrogen fertilizer emissions in the Chesapeake Bay and the Maryland Eastern Shore.

In 2016, he signed a law reauthorizing greenhouse gas emission goals and mandating a 40% reduction in statewide carbon emissions by 2030.

In 2019, he declared his support for the impeachment investigation launched by the United States House of Representatives against Trump.
