United States judge who served on the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York from 1909 to 1924. He was later appointed to the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit where he served from 1924 to 1961. Learned Hand was born on January 27, 1872, in New York. He was a supporter of the political career of U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt. He majored in philosophy at Harvard College and subsequently attended Harvard Law School where he graduated with honors.
