Lecrae Devaughn Moore was born on October 9, 1979, in Houston, Texas.

Since he was a child, his father had been missing from his life, and he finally became a heroin addict.

He went to church with them, but their initial reaction to religion was lukewarm at best.

He grew up in locales including San Diego, Denver, and Dallas, among others.

He was sexually abused by a female babysitter when he was eight years old, and it had a long-term negative effect on his libido.

In a world full of cruelty and violence, hip-hop provided him with a safe haven.

He looked up to his uncle, who had introduced him to a life of crime, and 2Pac, whom he admired for his rapping ability.

He began using narcotics at the age of 16 and quickly progressed to dealing.

As a good luck charm, his grandmother had given him a Bible, which he brought with him.
