Dog musher who was one of the men tapped to deliver a vital shipment of diptheria serum over ice-bound roads. Leonhard Seppala was born on September 14, 1877 in Norway. Though not as well-known as Gunnar Kaasen and his dog Balto, who handled the last leg of the trip to Nome, he travelled almost twice the distance of other mushers with as many as 24 dogs.
