Levi Stubbs was an American musician and actor. Levi Stubbs rose to prominence as the lead vocalist of the Motown R&B group Four Tops.

Levi Stubbs- Professional Career

In the mid-1950s, Stubbs began his music career with his friends Abdul “Duke” Fakir, Renaldo “Obie” Benson, and Lawrence Payton.

The group was originally known as the Four Aims, but they eventually changed their name to the Four Tops.

In 1963, they joined Motown Records and went on to record great songs such as “Baby, I Need Your Loving,” “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch),” and “Reach Out, I’ll Be There.”

Stubbs pursued acting in addition to his singing career.

He played Audrey II, a man-eating plant, in the 1986 film adaption of the musical “Little Shop of Horrors.”

He also played Mother Brain in the animated series “Captain N: The Game Master” from 1989 to 1991.

After being stricken with cancer, Levi left the Four Tops in 1997.

He died on October 17, 2008, at the age of 72, in Detroit, Michigan.
