”Life Below Zero” is a documentary television series that covers the lives and daily activities of subsistence hunters who live in isolated areas of Alaska and appear to spend their entire time merely living in extreme climatic conditions, including temperatures that frequently fall below zero. The series was created by the BBC and aired on the National Geographic Channel.

Tinmiaq, Iriqtaq, Mary, Caroline, and Qutan are the couple’s five daughters. Despite living in a remote part of the world and focusing on hunting and fishing, the sisters have not neglected their education, with Iritaq graduating from high school in 2015 and continuing her studies by enrolling in college.
During high school, she and her sister Mary were both athletes. It’s worth noting that Iritaq is already a mother, making Chip and Agnes grandparents.
Life Below Zero’s Deaths
Fortunately, no members of the cast were killed, but one of the show’s main characters, Sue Aikens, said that the producer, Aaron Mellman, “strong-armed her into a number of hazardous circumstances,” adding that the only reason he did so was to add drama to the show.
She reported one instance in which he instructed her to expose her face despite the bitterly cold windchill because he wanted the audience to get a better picture of her.
Life Below Zero’s Episodes
“Life Below Zero” first aired in 2013, and the show is still in production as of 2018. So far, there have been 102 episodes, with James Franzo serving as narrator.
One of the most notable episodes is “Unfamiliar Territory,” which follows Sue as she departs Kavik for the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
In the same episode, Glenn cuts down a tree near his cabin, while Agnes and three of her daughters go hunting. Two of the most well-received episodes were “Hell and High Water” and “There Be Monsters.”
Life Below Zero’s Criticism
Despite the series’ efforts to portray Alaska as a remote and potentially dangerous location, many have pointed out that the state is actually connected by highways and has WiFi, among other modern upgrades and appliances. Furthermore, contrary to what the presentation implies, the temperature is not always below zero.
