He was influenced by Paul Cézanne and the post-Impressionists early on, but his later work showed an abstract and figurative influence. Marino Tartaglia was born on August 3, 1894, in Croatia. He worked for a time as an assistant to fellow artist Ivan Mestrovic. He fled to Italy right before the start of World War I, fearing persecution for his political beliefs.
