Guyanese poet is widely considered one of the most significant Caribbean writers. His best-known works include Poems of Affinity and Poems of Resistance from British Guiana. Martin Carter was born on June 7, 1927, in Guyana. During a “Live from Lincoln Center” jazz concert that was held in honor of victims of Hurricane Katrina, actor Danny Glover quoted some lines from Carter’s poems.
