Carroll began his basketball career in 2003 and retired in 2012. 

He entered the NBA draft in 2003 but went undrafted.

On November 7, 2003, he signed with the Portland Trail Blazers and began his professional basketball career.

After around 13 games, he was discharged from the team on January 7, 2004.

On December 11, 2014, he signed a contract extension with the Roanoke Dazzle of the NBA Development League.

On March 8, 2004, he signed with the San Antonio Spurs for the remainder of the season, averaging 2 points.

He also appeared in the 2004 Summer League with the Golden State Warriors.

On February 23, 2005, he signed with the Charlotte Bobcats, and on July 17, 2007, he signed a contract extension with the Bobcats.

Carroll was dealt to the Dallas Mavericks on January 16, 2009, but was returned to the Bobcats on July 13, 2010.

On November 13, 2012, he was dealt to the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for Hakim Warrick, however, he was quickly dismissed on November 20, 2012.

He retired from professional basketball playing after that. 

He was named Charlotte Hornets community Ambassador on March 18, 2014.
