On December 4, 1937, Max Baer and Mary Ellen Sullivan welcomed a son, Max Baer Jr, who is of German, Jewish, and Scots-Irish ancestry; he was born as the eldest of three children in Oakland, California, United States.

Baer Jr was raised in a boxing household with his siblings – James Manny Baer and Maude Baer – as his father, Max Baer Sr, was a World Heavyweight Champion with a 63 to 13 win-loss career record. Furthermore, his uncle Buddy Baer was a boxer as well as an actor.

The ‘Baers’ are also renowned for their tall stature and muscular build. Max is 6 feet 4 inches tall, while his father is over 6 feet 5 inches tall and his uncle Buddy is 6 feet 7 inches tall.

Baer Jr. attended Christian Brothers High School in Sacramento, where he graduated. He was so excellent at sports when he was there that he lettered in four separate sports.

Max Baer Jr started his acting career in 1960, following in the footsteps of his uncle Buddy Baer, who had been acting since 1937. His first television appearance was in three episodes of the ABC drama TV series Maverick.

In 1960, he starred in many ABC TV programs, including Surfside 6 (where he played Joe Wilk), Cheyenne (where he played three characters), Hawaiian Eye (where he played Ali and Bill Gorham), and 77 Sunset Strip (where he played three characters again).

He appeared in Bronco and Sugarfoot in 1961, followed by Follow the Sun and It’s a Man’s World in 1962.

In the same year, he landed his most well-known part in The Beverly Hillbillies, a CBS comedy television series in which he portrayed Jethro Bodine.

The program lasted until 1971, but Max would be linked with the character for many years after that.

He, ironically, did not attend to audition for the part of Jethro. Instead, he drove a buddy who wanted to audition for the part, and he decided to give it a try as well.

Max Baer Jr: Married or Single?

Max Baer Jr’s interactions with ladies did not go well since he was successful in his profession and financial interests.

In 1966, he married Joanne Kathleen Hill for the first time. While it is unknown how they met, Hill worked as an extra on Beverly Hillbillies.

Their marriage lasted just a few years until it ended in 1971. They had no children from their marriage.

His previous relationships also did not end well. He dated Victoria’s Principal, but the relationship terminated after he was charged with violence. Chere Rhodes, his lover, would commit herself at his house many years later.

Rhodes, a penthouse model, accidentally shot herself in the breast. Despite being transported to Reno Regional Medical Center, she died three days later. Max Baer Jr has no children from his marriages or other partnerships.
