Kenyan rally driver Maxine Wahome has been released on Ksh. 100,000 cash bail while authorities investigate an incident in which she is suspected of beating her lover.

Wahome made history in June of this year when she became the first woman to win the WRC3 at the age of 26.

The Police requested that she be held for 14 days while they filed charges

against Wahome for causing serious harm to Asad Khan, but Magistrate Benard Ochoi denied their request.

The court declined to force the media to stop reporting on the issue

because her claims that she is a victim have not been substantiated.

On Tuesday, Wahome’s attorneys requested the court to limit media coverage of the case, stating that she is the victim, not the offender.

Ochoi refused the state’s plea to keep her in jail for two weeks, citing a lack of compelling reasons.
