Artist, illustrator, and winner of 15 Hugo Awards for his science fiction, fantasy, and surrealist artwork. He was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in June 2009, becoming the first living artist bestowed with the honor. Michael Whelan was born on June 29, 1950 in California. His art appeared on the cover of Meat Loaf‘s albums Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell and The Very Best of Meat Loaf.
