Professional Career of Mikel Arteta

Mikel Arteta began his football career at Antiguoko, where he met and befriended Xabi Alonso, a midfielder with whom he played every weekend.

They used to play on the beaches and gutters of San Sebastian and fantasized about playing for Real Sociedad together.

Arteta joined Real Sociedad for €5.2 million in 2004 with the intention of playing with Xabi Alonso. He moved to Liverpool but was unable to establish himself in the club.

In March 2002, he secured a £6 million transfer contract with Scottish team Rangers. Arteta had a fantastic debut season in Glasgow, rapidly establishing himself as a regular in the first team.

Mikel sustained a stomach injury in the second half of the season, and he needed surgery to correct the problem shortly before the season’s last game.

In January 2010, he returned from injury as a substitute in an FA Cup match. Despite this, he made 29 appearances for Arsenal this season, scoring six goals, and was voted the fifth most important player in Arsenal’s Player of the Season poll.

He was named Arsenal’s vice-captain for the 2012-13 season following the departure of captain Robin van Persie.

Mikel was also chosen the fourth-best player in Arsenal’s Player of the Season poll for the 2012-13 season.

Prior to the 2014-15 season, Mikel was named Arsenal’s new club captain. He won his first title as a full-time captain when Arsenal defeated Manchester City 3-0 in the FA Community Shield in 2014.

Despite his new position, he only appeared in 11 games this season, scoring once. For the 2015-16 season, Arteta signed a one-year extension with Arsenal, and he came on as a substitute in Arsenal’s 1-10 triumph over Chelsea in the FA Community Shield.

On the final day of the season, he played his final game for Arsenal. He was named an assistant coach at Manchester City on July 3, 2016, alongside Brian Kidd and Domenec Torrent, who served as Pep Guardiola’s subordinates.

Mikel was also heavily connected with the Arsenal manager’s position in 2018. On December 26, 2019, he stepped out of the dugout for the first time as Arsenal manager for their Premier League match against A.F.C. Bournemouth, which concluded in a 1-1 draw.

He won his first match as an Arsenal manager on January 2, 2020, when Arsenal defeated Manchester United 2-0 at the Emirates.

Following his retirement from professional football, Mikel became an assistant manager under Man City manager Pep Guardiola.

Arteta adored working with Pep Guardiola, the tactical genius, and learned a lot from him. Mikel was designated as the Mager for his old squad Arsenal later in 2019.

Mikel managed to win the FA Cup in his first season as manager. Apart from Manchester City, Mikel’s Arsenal is the only team to have won the FA Cup in the last four years.

He told the club’s website, “I am entirely recovered [today].” “It’s true, I began to have symptoms when we received a phone call from the club informing us that we may have been exposed to the virus as a result of Olympiacos’ owner, and at that time… I’m not sure, but I had a feeling that I had it.”

“We cannot simply forget about this in two or three months – if we are able to get over this fast – because it is so vital.”

After completing a two-week isolation period, Arsenal players were scheduled to come to training earlier this week, but their return has been postponed.

After his wife and their nanny acquired the virus, Arteta said his biggest concern was for his three children.

He self-isolated for two or three days in a room and a bathroom, but his wife became unwell soon after.

“I am a pretty positive person, and I try to take the time to think about what we can learn from this,” he said.

“I haven’t had the chance to wake up with my children, devote my time to them, and listen to them.” We’re all in the same house now, and we’re really enjoying those moments.”
