From 1976 through 1979, Steve McMichael was a defensive tackle for the Texas Longhorns, where he was a consensus first-team All-American and the defensive MVP of the Hula Bowl in 1979.

On July 17, 2010, Steve was also inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. 

The New England Patriots drafted him out of Texas in 1980, but he was released before his second season.

After signing as a free agent in 1981, he became a starting defensive tackle for the Chicago Bears, and he helped them win the Super Bowl in 1985.

Since 1990, when his playing time decreased, he has played 101 games. 

In 1988, he led the Bears with 1112 sacks. He made a total of 108 tackles in 1989.

During the 1986 and 1987 seasons, he was named to the NFC Pro Bowl squads.

He rose to prominence in a 1991 game against the New York Jets, when he caused a Blair Thomas fumble and recovered it at the New York 36 with 1:54 remaining, with the Bears behind 13-6.

On September 4, 1995, he made his WCW debut as the pro-babyface color commentator on the first episode of WCW Monday Nitro.

Steve, along with his partner Kevin Greene, challenged Ric and Arn Anderson to a competition.
