Willard Mitt Romney (born March 12, 1947) is a well-known American politician and businessman from Detroit, Michigan. From 2003 until 2007, he served as Governor of Massachusetts. In 2012, he also ran for President of the United States.

The American billionaire began his career in the 1970s when he began working for a firm called Bain & Co. He worked hard throughout the years and rose to the position of CEO in the business. He used to be paid well, in the millions of dollars.

In 1984, he founded a financial investment firm called “Bain Capital” with the assistance of other partners. Romney was named one of People magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People in 2002, and in 2004, he received the first Truce Ideal Award from an organization that supports Olympic truces.

What is the net worth of Mitt Romney?

Mitt Romney is a wealthy guy. If he is elected president on November 6, he will become one of the richest individuals in history.  The number that has been bandied around is $250 million in net worth, which is the entire value of his assets, both financial and non-financial, less any obligations.

It’s a large number, yet it seems to below. Margaret Collins and Richard Rubin said unequivocally last month in a comprehensive Bloomberg News assessment of Romney’s fortune, “Mitt Romney should be a billionaire.”

According to the form, Romney has about $31 million in cash and between $250,000 and $500,000 in gold, with Bain accounting for less than a quarter of his financial holdings.

His residences in California, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire are not included on the form. It also ignores the (completely legal) tax-avoidance trust he created for his children and grandkids in 1995, which Bloomberg believes is worth $100 million.

It does, however, contain his 1996 charitable remainder trust (with a cash value of less than $50,000), four speaking fees totaling $190,000, and both his and his wife Ann’s blind trusts and individual retirement accounts.

Romney’s IRA, which is worth between $21 million and $102 million, must include a percentage of his earnings — or “carried interest,” in private equity parlance — from many Bain transactions.

He deposited the carried interest in his IRA when it was worth nothing, and then saw its value skyrocket thanks to the financial alchemy of leveraged buyouts. So, if Romney’s stated $250 million net worth seems modest in comparison to his contemporaries, former partners, and securities holdings, it is.
