Green was drafted in the 32nd round of the 1998 Major League Baseball Draft by the Atlanta Braves.

He made his Major League debut on May 15, 2004, against the Milwaukee Braves.

He blasted a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 12th inning on July 2, 2004, to lead the Braves to a victory over the Boston Red Sox.

 The Devil Rays of Tampa Bay

For the 2005 season, the Atlanta Braves traded Nick to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

He batted.239 in 111 games for the Devil Rays in 2005.

Yankees of New York

For the 2006 season, he was traded from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays to the New York Yankees.

He made his first start for the Yankees on July 2, 2006, at second base.

The Mariners of Seattle

Following that, in 2007, he was traded by the New York Yankees to the Seattle Mariners.
