Paul Rigby was born on October 25, 1924, in Australia. He and his contemporary and fellow Australian artist, Jeff Hook, both had successful careers as political cartoonists. After fighting in Europe and North Africa during World War II as a member of the Royal Australian Air Force, he began his artistic career as an illustrator for a Perth newspaper called The West Australian.
